The Price of Children

I received this email today from a friend and just wanted to share!

The Price of Children

The government recently calculated the cost of raising a child from birth to 18 and came up with $160,140 for a middle income family. Talk about sticker shock! That doesn't even touch college tuition.

But $160,140 isn't so bad if you break it down. It translates into $8,896.66 a year, $741.38 a month, or $171.08 a week. That's a mere $24.24 a day! Just over a dollar an hour. Still, you might think the best financial advice is don't have children if you want to be "rich." Actually, it is just the opposite.

What do you get for your $160,140?

Naming rights. First, middle, and last!
Glimpses of God every day.
Giggles under the covers every night.
More love than your heart can hold.
Butterfly kisses and Velcro hugs.
Endless wonder over rocks, ants, clouds, and warm cookies.
A hand to hold, usually covered with jelly or chocolate.
A partner for blowing bubbles, flying kites, building sandcastles, and skipping down the sidewalk in the pouring rain.
Someone to laugh yourself silly with, no matter what the boss said or how your stocks performed that day.
For $160,140, you never have to grow up.

You get to finger-paint, carve pumpkins, play hide-and-seek, catch lightning bugs, and never stop believing in Santa Claus.
You have an excuse to keep reading the Adventures of Piglet and Pooh, watching Saturday morning cartoons, going to Disney movies, and wishing on stars.
You get to frame rainbows, hearts, and flowers under refrigerator magnets and collect spray painted noodle wreaths for Christmas, hand prints set in clay for Mother's Day, and cards with backward letters for Father's Day. For $160,140, there is no greater bang for your buck.
You get to be a hero just for retrieving a Frisbee off the garage roof, taking the training wheels off a bike, removing a splinter, filling a wading pool, coaxing a wad of gum out of bangs, and coaching a baseball team that never wins but always gets treated to ice cream regardless.
You get a front row seat to history to witness the first step, first word, first bra, first date, and first time behind the wheel.
You get to be immortal.

You get another branch added to your family tree, and if you're lucky, a long list of limbs in your obituary called grandchildren and great grandchildren. You get an education in psychology, nursing, criminal justice, communications, and human sexuality that no college can match. In the eyes of a child, you rank right up there under God. You have all the power to heal a boo-boo, scare away the monsters under the bed, patch a broken heart, police a slumber party, ground them forever, and love them without limits, so . . one day they will, like you, love without counting the cost. We all know they grow up too soon.

So love and enjoy your children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren! It's the best investment you'll ever make!!!

One of my personal favorites-you get to dress them up for Halloween in the cutest little costumes!

30 weeks

Today I had my 30 week checkup and Aidan had his 2 year checkup. We have been a little under the weather this past week! We all have summer colds! I was just thinking who gets a cold in the middle of summer! You guessed it, my family! Aidan also has his first ear infection! It wasn't too bad yet, but just starting to look a little red and had some fluid on it! Dr. Cole put him on antibiotics and hopefully he will start feeling better soon! I guess that explains why he was screaming bloody murder at 4:00 in the morning. James and I were panicked because he honestly has only done that about 3 other times in his life! I guess God is preparing us for those late nights we will be having with Parker! I can only hope that Parker is as easy as Aidan was! As for Parker and I Dr. Cole said we are doing great! I am so thankful to have had such a healthy pregnancy so far. I hope that these last few weeks go great as well! I measured 31 weeks and Parker's heart rate was 160bpm. I start going to the doctor every two weeks now! We're getting close!

Tractor Party

On Saturday we had Aidan's 2nd birthday! We decorated in a tractor, farmish kind of theme! He had such a good time and got so many fun presents. Thanks to everyone who came and celebrated this day with us! Aidan is loved so much, and is so blessed to have so many special people in his life! Here are just a few of the photos from his birthday. I wish I could post them all!

Aidan, Kace, and Ryker. Aren't they cute!

The kids eating. All of that swimming must have made them hungry!

Aidan riding his brand new tractor from mom and dad!

He is smiling at his Uncle Floyd in this picture!

8 Years and Counting!

Today James and I are celebrating 8 years of marriage! I can't believe that we have been married for so long. It really seems just like yesterday that we were planning our wedding! We have made so many great memories together! I think we would both agree that our best memories lie ahead of us with our boys! I love you James and can't wait to spend many, many, more years with you and our family! Thanks for being such a wonderful husband and father!

I scanned some pictures of our wedding day. Their not the best quality but still fun to look at!

Two Years Ago Today...

my life changed forever. I was blessed with a beautiful baby boy! We had prayed for him for so long, and he was finally here! I didn't know being a mom would be so great! Aidan has blessed our lives more than he will ever know! I love you Aidan, and look forward to many more wonderful days with you! You are such a sweet little boy!

Right after delivery! Isn't he a doll! I know I'm bias!

The day we brought him home from the hospital! He had to be completely decked out in all of his OU gear! I'm sure Parker will too!

He will probably never forgive me for making him wear that hat!

Eating his first birthday cake! He was a little hesitant at first, but then just dug right in!

Driving his tractor at his 2nd birthday party! I can't believe my little boy is two!

Parker's 4d U/S

We had Parker's 4d u/s done today. It was so great getting to see him. We took Aidan thinking that he might be interested. Wrong! He could have cared less! Parker measured 30 weeks and 1 day. I'm only 28 weeks and 1 day. She also estimated my due date as September 21st. It was originally October 2nd. I guess he'll come when he gets good and ready! The u/s tech did say he weighed around 3lbs and 2 oz. I guess he is going to be a big baby. He looked so sweet, and he already had a little hair! It was so good to see him today, and know that he is doing well!

Happy 4th!

We had a low key fourth this year. My sister Sandra's family and my mom and dad came over for a great dinner. I cooked Poppyseed Chicken, and my sister brought fresh sweet corn and grilled potatoes and squash! Yum!!! For dessert I made Oreo dirt trifle. It was delicious, and low fat too! Ha! After dinner James and Aidan swam for awhile and then we popped a few fireworks. Aidan did really well with the fireworks. He didn't get too scared! I think next year he will be trying to light them!

This is the only picture I took on the 4th. Sad! I guess we were too busy making sure Aidan didn't run in the street, or get burned. You know, the important things!

Dirt Digger

On Friday we went to visit my parents at the lake. We had fun just sitting around visiting. While we were visiting Aidan had the best time playing in the dirt and gravel. He was filthy. I think my sister Sandra even said this is probably the dirtiest he has ever been. She was right. We couldn't even take him home until my Dad and James showered him off. He had dirt everywhere. Oh well, he had a good time! He is 100% boy!
